A company, organization or individual intending to host a website in Nicaragua should ideally have a .ni registration. This is to establish their link with Nicaragua, a democratic republic in Central America. The Internet domain names of Nicaragua end with the extension .ni. The Universidad Nacional del Ingernieria is the sponsoring organization as well as the registry for .ni domain registrations. The University administrates the NIC-NI (Network Information Center — Nicaragua which is the authority responsible for managing and allocating .ni domain names. Currently, domain names with .ni extensions are also used by websites in Northern Ireland.
Registrations are made at the third level, beneath second level names. The second level domains include .gob (for organizations of the government of Nicaragua), .edu (universities and institutes of education), .org (non-governmental organizations), .com (commercial organizations), .net (networks of organizations), and .nom (personal domains).
For .ni registration, there are a series of rules and policies that the registrants are expected to observe. In some cases, registrants may be asked to produce the required documents as proof of identity. You can also choose your trade name as your domain name. For that, at the time of submitting the application form, registrants are required to produce a letter of undertaking and a copy of the trade name of the company or a document copy.
The permitted characters for registering a domain name under .ni root are the letters of the English alphabet (a-z), and digits (0-9), and the hyphen symbol (-). Registering a domain name with the first and/or last character of the domain as a hyphen symbol is not accepted. The maximum allowed length for the selected domain name should not exceed 20 characters (recommended characters are 15). The minimum length accepted for a domain name is of 3 characters (recommended is 5).
