The official Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) assigned to Slovakia is the .sk. The .sk domain registration came into force in 1993 under the administration of EUnet. Now the administration and control of .sk domains is vested in the SK-NIC.
The .sk domain name registration is only allowed to local entities in Slovakia. To become a .sk registrant, an applicant must be a Slovak citizen or a company registered in Slovakia. Domains are allowed to be registered at the second level, or at the third level under second-level labels. Some of the important second level domains available in the .sk domains include: .org.sk, .com.sk, .co.sk. and .net.sk.
The requirements to register an .sk domain name vary for businesses and individuals. For business entities, a signed and stamped application request attached with the copies of all legal documents are required. In the case of individuals and non business entities, they must submit an application form verified by a notary. For individual entrepreneurs in the Slovak Territory, they must enclose a valid copy of a small business license with the signed and stamped application form. In some cases, additional documents and information are required to produce at the convenience of the registry.
All applicants are required to comply with the naming restrictions stated in the policy in connection with the registrations. They should not use a domain name which is reserved or previously allocated. Domain names containing a registered trademark cannot be registered unless a proof of the written authorization is submitted thereto.
The ownership of domain names is transferable, except for commercial purposes. All communications in connection with .sk domain registration are in Slovak language. |
