The internet country code top level domain for entities in El-Salvador is .sv. Local presence is required for .sv registration. Multiple domains are allowed which means each company can opt for more than one domain.
Applications for .sv registration must be typed in the appropriate form and physically submitted to the office of SVNet in CONACYT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología). These forms are to be signed by the contact person. Spanish is the language used in the forms but other correspondences and further procedures can be done in either Spanish or English. Other than the fact that applications that have to be personally submitted, all other forms of communication may be via e-mails and fax messages. All applications will be processed in chronological order. At least two name servers must be configured to resolve the address.
The sub-domains available for .sv are:
- .edu.sv — educational and research entities
- .gob.sv -governmental institutions
- .com.sv -commercial entities and others not included under other heads
- .red.sv — national network administration
- .org.sv — non-profit organizations
For domain names, only valid characters such as letters, numbers, hyphen and underscore are allowed. Hyphens cannot begin or end the sub domain names and the characters used must be in the lower case. The sub domain names should not have any similarity to strategic and official aspects related to the country. Similarly, the chosen domain name should not be one that is connected with any kind of official representation of El Salvador. Instead, the domain name should ideally be similar to the name, initials or abbreviation of the applicant.
Registration fees are not refundable even after the deletion of the registered sub-domains. The registrant is responsible for the use of sub-domain names. |
